This classical walk is “a must” for all newcomers to the city.
Christiania was the former name of Oslo between 1624 and 1924.
We walk through the old Christiania. A part of the city which was founded more than 300 years ago by the late Danish king Christian the fourth. He gave thus this part of the city his name. Many houses from his time are still in use, like some typical Norwegian restaurants.
In the neighbourhood we find the old Akershus castle, which we pay a visit.
The new pride of the town – the Operahouse with its extraordinary architecture, the city hall at the waterfront, the Oslo cathedral by the flowermarket and the main street Carl Johan with its institutions like the Parliament, the University, the Grand Hotel and the National Theatre, the Royal Palace are all objectives of this walk.
